Scripture Union Daily Guide 30th March 2021 Online – Regret Is Not Repentance
TOPIC: REGRET IS NOT REPENTANCE
OPENING PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 27:1-10
Question(s) for Reflection:
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
MESSAGE:
Jesus had only been in custody for a few hours, but the Jewish leaders had already come to the decision that he must be put to death (v.1). Being under Roman rule, they went to Pilate, the Roman Governor, to rubberstamp their decision. Decisions that are carried out during the day in the open court are sometimes made in club houses and secret meetings in the dead of the night. “Be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).

That was the experience of Judas. He came to his senses and remorse filled his heart. Unfortunately, and unlike Peter, he tried to solve his problem by hanging himself. In our world today, even some Christians respond to problems like Judas did. What God wants from us, when we sin is repentance, not just remorse or regret.
Preachers and teachers of God’s word must like Paul help people who sinned against God to realize their mistakes and exhibit godly sorrows, leading to their repentance and salvation (2 Cor. 7: 8 – 10). No sin is too big to be forgiven by the One who prayed for those who crucified him. Both Saul (Acts 7:58; 8:1; 1 Timothy 1:13-15) and David (2 Samuel 12:9,13) were murderers but they received God’s instant forgiveness.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
• Deliver me, dear Lord Jesus, from falsehood, greed and any sins that could lead to eternal damnation.
• Thank God for interdenominational corporate bodies such as Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN)
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Ezekiel 34:25-27
• Prov. 19-21; Heb. 1
